The Phaenopharos khaoyaiensis is a striking stick insect native to Thailand but bred in Spain , ideal for those seeking a striking, large, and easy-to-keep species. Measuring up to 14 cm in adult body length (excluding legs), it is one of the largest phasmids available for captive breeding.

Its greyish colouring allows it to camouflage itself perfectly as a dry branch, but its most striking feature is its defensive behaviour : when it feels threatened, it deploys a second pair of deep red wings, creating a spectacular visual warning effect.

🔹 Basic care sheet :

  • Birth size : 2 cm | Adult size : up to 14 cm.

  • Recommended terrarium : at least 3 times its size in height and 2 in width.

  • Humidity : stable around 75% .

  • Temperature : from 20ºC to 30ºC .

  • Food : bramble (Rubus spp.) and rose (Rosa spp.) , easy to find all year round.

  • Reproduction : Parthenogenetic species; only females lay fertile eggs without the need for a male. The young are born after about 4 months.

  • Development : They complete 6 moults (L6) in about 5 months, and live up to 1 more year as adults .

An ideal choice for both beginners and collectors looking for a spectacular, peaceful, and easy-to-breed insect.
