The Lonchodiodes sp. "Ilocos" is a striking stick insect native to the Ilocos region of Luzon, Philippines, but bred in Spain. It stands out for its striking coloration and ease of maintenance in captivity, making it an excellent choice for both novice and experienced hobbyists.

Characteristics and Sexual Dimorphism:

• Females: They reach approximately 12 cm in length. Their coloration varies between shades of green and brown, with white spots on the legs and a black stripe on the sides of the thorax. The antennae are long, exceeding 8 cm .

• Males: They measure about 9 cm and have a bright reddish coloration, with a darkened lower abdomen and black legs with red "knees." Their antennae reach 7.5 cm .

Life Cycle:

• Nymphs: At birth, they measure approximately 1.5 cm and are green. Males molt five times, and females six , reaching maturity in five to six months . Adults live six to eight months .

• Reproduction: Reproduction is sexual. Copulations usually occur at night and are frequent. Females lay 3 to 4 eggs daily , dropping them to the ground. The eggs take about 4 months to hatch.

Care in Captivity:

• Terrarium: A terrarium of at least Three times the height and twice the width of the insect's length. It's important that the terrarium has good ventilation and vertical elements so the insects can climb and molt properly.

• Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a temperature between 22 and 25°C and a relative humidity of 70-80% . Light misting every 2 or 3 days is usually sufficient to maintain adequate humidity.

• Food: They accept a variety of plants, with blackberries and roses being their main food sources. It's advisable to offer fresh leaves and make sure they haven't been treated with pesticides.
