Beetle substrate (Flake Soil)

Flake Soil is a fermented substrate for rearing and developing the larvae of giant beetles and stag beetles (Lucanidae and Dynastinae). Its fermentation makes it a source of nutrients for the larvae and its texture supports their development. It only needs water added before use and must not be mixed with other substrates, as this would upset its biological balance.

How do you keep Flake Soil moist?

Flake Soil should be slightly moist. Check it regularly and dampen it as needed, without overdoing the water. The right point: squeeze a handful; it should hold the shape of your fist without dripping.
