HID lighting kit for desert reptiles - professional

The professional HID lighting kit for desert reptiles automates the day and night cycle of an arid vivarium. An HID bulb provides UVB, light and heat by day; a ceramic bulb, controlled by a digital dimming thermostat with probe, tops up the heat when it falls short and maintains it at night without giving light. It is for reptiles that demand plenty of UVB and uninterrupted heat at any hour.

What does the professional HID kit for desert species include?

• Complete HID unit: UVB, UVA, heat and visible light, with ceramic lamp holder and wiring; in 35 W, 50 W or 70 W.
• Digital dimming thermostat: with probe, for automatic day/night control.
• Ceramic bulb: 25, 50, 75, 100 or 150 W.
• Additional ceramic lamp holder: 1 unit.
• Stands: 2, with clamp.

How does the day/night control of the HID kit work?

In daylight, the professional kit's HID illuminates, emits UVB/UVA and heats; if the temperature falls short, the thermostat switches on the ceramic as back-up. When night comes the HID switches off by itself, and the ceramic only comes on when needed, in darkness, so that the animal rests well. Important: the HID cannot withstand repeated switching on and off, so it goes in the lighting socket and never in the one that regulates temperature.

Which reptiles can use the desert HID kit?

• Pogona vitticeps (bearded dragon).
• Varanus exanthematicus, V. acanthurus (monitors).
• Salvator merianae, Tupinambis sp. (tegus).
• Testudo hermanni, T. graeca, Geochelone sulcata (tortoises).
• Uromastyx sp. (uromastyx).

If you don't need automatic day/night control, the standard HID kit for desert reptiles is the simpler version.
